Secondhand Wishlist: Everything I Want to Find

I like shopping secondhand and knowing that I’ve found something that not just anyone can go to the store and buy anymore. Vintage finds are the best and also taking something old and refurbishing it or recreating it into something new just makes my heart happy. I’ve taken some old furniture that my parents and grandparents used to have and remade it into a piece that I would like to have in my own home someday. As I go through countless secondhand stores looking at all the well-loved treasures donated by someone else, I start racking up a list of things in my head that I would love to find and make my own someday.

The first thing that I want to do is find mismatched sets of dinnerware that sort of go together without being identical. I don’t see a real reason to go to the store and buy a new set of dishes in a box when there are so many sitting on secondhand store shelves. As I have pointed out in the past, a lot of times, people will donate sets of dishes that are almost pristine. That or they broke one dish in the set and decided to buy a whole new one. I think it would be fairly easy to choose a color scheme that I like and then find dishes that fit in the color scheme. I’ve also seen some cute pictures of mismatched dinnerware that makes me really want to do this.

Etsy is also a great place to find vintage dinnerware, although that can run more than $100 most times. I know that the Salvation Army and Goodwill are great places to look for this stuff, so I’m excited to see what I find. Hopefully, I can find something before May of next year when I am set to graduate and move out of my parents’ house.

Another thing that I’m looking to thrift or find secondhand is furniture. I’m looking at moving into a small apartment, so I probably won’t need a ton starting out. I probably won’t need a couch since I’m planning on just using my futon from college unless by some grand intervention it ends up getting destroyed this year. The only things that I think I would really need is a small dining room table and a bed frame. Luckily, coffee tables are a dime a dozen, and I’ve even talked with my dad about making one if I can’t find one that I like enough. I’m sure I could also just get a bed frame from a relative that they are no longer using.

If you follow my blog at all, you know how much I love house plants. I am currently using a wire shelf and the window sill in my room to house all of my plants, but I’m looking at getting an actual plant shelf that is functional and cute. I’ve seen a few shelves that are made from old ladders, which I would love to do. They are really simple to make and also condense to travel. I’m working with my dad to see about making one, but I need to find a nice old ladder to use as the base. For my larger plants, like my bird of paradise and Hawaiian ti cordyline, I’m looking to find some cute plant stands secondhand. Since my local thrift stores don’t quite seem to have any of that stuff, I think that I’m going to have to travel into the city to find something at a bigger secondhand store.

Swimsuits are another big item that I’m looking to either buy secondhand or get from friends. I’m someone that likes to have options when it comes to my swimwear. I have some swimsuits that just work better for some occasions than others. I have more modest ones for when I’m around family or my boyfriend’s family, and then I have ones that work better for tanning and minimal tan lines. I’m currently trying to set up a swimsuit swap with some of my friends who are around the same size as me, this way we can get “new” swimsuits while saving money and also helping the environment. I have several friends with upwards of 30 suits in their collection, so I know that they have some that they are ready to part with. I like this idea mostly because it means that my collection will either shrink or stay relatively the same size since I’m planning on only taking as much as I give.

All in all, I think the fun of the search to find the perfect item secondhand is much more rewarding than just typing something into amazon and clicking buy. There is something just so satisfying when the one thing that you’ve been looking for is right there in front of you, well-loved and for a hard to beat price.

Why I’m Stopping No Poo After 3 Weeks

So the first experiment I decided to try in 2021 was to try and go no poo. No poo itself is a broad term that can mean a lot of things. For some people, no poo is just stopping using traditional liqui
